Greetings and Reflections on the Past Year

Beloved members of the Body of the 24 Elders,
Esteemed members of the Episcopate,
Your Most Reverend Auxiliary Bishops,
Distinguished members of the Women’s Central Council,
Distinguished members of the Youth and Children’s Central Council,
Illustrious Guests,
Daughters and sons of God!

I want, on behalf of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World and in my own personal name, to thank from the bottom of my spirit God and Father of glory, for the way He knew how to protect us, during the 365 days, against the various challenges that the contemporary world placed before us day after day. It would be ungrateful on my part and, at the same time, imprudent, if I did not recognize His power and glory that made the one who was insignificant in the eyes of the world, transforming him into the brightest star and the foremost man that humanity has ever known by making him sit on the throne, placing him among the great and in the midst of the kings of this world, I Samuel 2:8.

The year 0010 of the Millennium of Christ was marked by memorable events that elevated the Church’s good name and prestige. Many noteworthy facts took place in the period of reference, standing out among the many, the pilgrimage to the Holy City of “Ntaya” Maquela do Zombo, on the occasion of the celebrations of the ninety-second birthday of the Founder of Tocoism, on February 24, 0010, in which the world observed the commotion of the one who was, is, and will forever be the Prophet Simão Gonçalves Toco, dead in the flesh, but living in spirit, working and guiding his Church, so that triumphantly it can proceed with its mission.

God, in His mission to save the world, to rescue man from sin, and guide him back to paradise, has been using men who interpret and make His designs known to the world. Thus, it has been since the time of the Prophets and Patriarchs, passing through our Lord Jesus Christ, his Disciples and Apostles, up to the present day, thus giving substance to what is written in the book of the great preacher where one can read: “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” I was citing Ecclesiastes 1:9.

I made this brief foray so that the spiritual phenomena that surround us and that we live in today can be easily understood. God is indeed the same God as always. He is the one who took the people of Israel out of slavery in Egypt through Moses, He is the same who spoke to the Prophets, He is the one who protected Daniel in the lions’ den, and the same who spoke to Abraham, He is the one who gave His only Son to save humanity and He is the same who speaks with us today.

In an analogy to the biblical world and making a parallel to the mission of the Prophet Moses, we affirm with propriety and conviction that, just as Aaron had Moses for God and Moses had Aaron for a mouth, so it is today that Simão Toco has Afonso Nunes for a mouth and the latter has Simão Gonçalves Toco for God who transmits to him what comes from God, and it is through him that until today he has received instructions from God the Creator of Heaven and Earth. This may seem like madness, but it is a pure reality. If we admit and believe that the God who spoke with Moses in the burning bush is the same God of our days, and He IS immutable, just as He spoke in Aaron, through Moses, using Aaron’s mouth to speak to the people, we must admit the event that I am describing to you, Exodus 4:15-16.

Today, I spoke a little about the relationship between Bishop Afonso Nunes and Master Simão Gonçalves Toco. Next time, it is important that I speak much more about the matter, although I recognize its complexity in human and perhaps scientific vision, but which, however, encourages me with the certainty that it will be good for those who believe in the immutability of God and His Saints.

Achievements and Administrative Advancements

As for the year that has ended, as I said before, it was very fruitful for us, although Satan did not stop trying to create constant disturbances. But our God always knew how to guarantee His Church resounding victories. We successfully held the III Congress, which laid the foundations for the development of the Church in the five years 0010/0015; we trained 200 Pastors from various Parishes in Angola and abroad; we created favorable spiritual and moral conditions so that the Leadership emerging from the III Congress could fit into the new work philosophy. We managed to rescue and grant the Church and its Founding Leader the respect and dignity that had long been lost.

For the first time in the history of the Church, alongside other achievements, we designed a multi-sectoral Five-Year Strategic Plan for the development of the Church; We created and restructured the Church into Ecclesiastical Regions, both nationally and internationally, giving greater and better possibility, not only in their monitoring, but also, and above all, in achieving a perspective that guarantees them uniform evolution. With the realization of the Parish, Provincial, and National Conferences, we implemented a new model of Church management, where local bodies, with free and sound conscience, indicated their Leaders to whom we granted possession and due authority.

I also deem it important to highlight on this occasion the redefinition of the concept and content of National Church, Provincial Church, Parish and Nucleus, as well as the numerical population definition for the designation of Tribes and the creation of two Ecclesiastical Districts in the Province of Kwanza Sul, with a view to improving the action of the Church in that locality, whose territory presented quite a challenge in the domain of organization and functioning. The LORD has not stopped! He continues granting His Church sufficient authority to bring thousands of souls to the Church who were lost yesterday.

The year 0010 was also marked as the year of attempts to install our FM Broadcasting Station, which would greatly facilitate us in the dissemination and broadcast of the gospel of Christ, through those antennas, if the administrative procedure on the part of the State authorities were more generous. Our intention is to be more participatory in the reduction and annihilation of the many evils that plague our country. We will continue to work until the State understands the reason for our project.

At the international level, we managed to reorganize the Churches that needed this great element. Today, I have faith that most of them have already overcome the situation they were in, although some still need structural organization.

Goals for the Coming Year

The construction of the first grand Cathedral of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World will continue to represent the great challenge of the work of our faith, until its completion. It is opportune to emphasize the great advances achieved, but which do not yet reflect the dream and the desire to present the House of God. Therefore, I appeal for redoubled efforts on the part of everyone during the year we are now starting so that in a conscious and active way we can hasten the completion of our work, and there, as I have repeatedly said, God will bless Israel. But I also have faith that He Himself will open ways so that the finances can appear for us to conclude this great and majestic project, the House of God, the Temple of the Living God, which is not only for the Church, but is an enterprise that will make Angola proud as a Nation. Hence, it should be seen as a great blessing for its inhabitants. Men of goodwill and government officials help in its conclusion.

The year that now begins will be decisive in perfecting the organization of our base and intermediate structures, which are our Parishes, Tribes, Provincial Churches, and National Churches, where our evangelizing action is based. The process of qualifying our Leaders will continue in all aspects, and we will impart a more active dynamic in the formation of new disciples for Christ, as well as in the structuring of the methods used so far. We will work hard to obtain the first bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theology, through a process that the Church’s Directorate will monitor in order to avoid the infiltration of philosophies contrary to and foreign to our good practices, norms, and doctrinal principles. The main axes foreseen in the Strategic Plan will be the object of systematic work in order to guarantee their sustainability and concretization.

The enterprise we built in the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe is of great social significance, but the Church alone, without the contribution of the government of São Tomé, cannot make it function at this point as a private regime.

Being an investment that, if functioning within the initial vision for which it was built, would result in benefits for our community in that country and for all São Toméans who live around the school. For reasons beyond our control, this will not be possible, leaving us only to deepen the study to alter its initial social purpose, giving it another character. Hence, the various competent bodies of the Church will be called upon in due time to intervene in the matter.

The process of our future university will continue to merit special attention so that, as soon as possible, we can conclude the administrative aspects to achieve the legal basis for its recognition and functioning in parallel with all the work that will be developed in the domain of civil construction. My appeal goes to our staff, those who have finished their training, as well as those who have not yet finished, to dedicate themselves to elevating their academic knowledge, aiming at the higher-level technical and scientific training up to doctorates in various specialties of knowledge, so that we can count right from the start on internal staff of respectable competence.

The literacy process must continue within the entire Church, as you know, knowing how to read and write helps man to uncover the how (…) otherwise (…), and gives the person another vision to face human nature itself, just as it helps him to better understand the very project of salvation. The Secretariat of Health has proven to be almost dead or non-existent, due to the fact that until now it has not been possible to advance the already existing projects in some Churches. The work in this sector has been dedicated only to medicating those who appear at the Church’s First Aid Post at the end of the week and accompanying the various caravans. You know that the Church’s vision regarding health is not limited to providing occasional treatments. I hope you organize yourselves better and can value the responsibility that has been assigned to you.

Societal Role and Global Outlook

In the year that has ended, taking into account the prestige that the Church is garnering, we managed to further improve our relations with the Angolan State, but we will need to improve even more, considering the character of the Church in its mission and the role it has played, both in the past and in the present, helping the government itself in the prominent issues of Angolan society. Therefore, we must work even harder so that this recognition is, in fact, an acquired right, and not as we see today.

In terms of internal unity, we will continue to work following the words of the Master and Owner of the work, when he prayed saying: “That all of them may be one; Father, just as you are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” End of quote, John 17:21.

In this sense, we must work with the base structures, forming more united and spiritual families, thus facilitating the harmonious growth of the Church made up of humble, respectful families loyal to God and the Church.

Here lies the great need to restart the reconstruction of this great building from the foundations. That is, structuring the processes of forming disciples, as well as discipleship, in the sense of doing now what we did not do in the past, thus allowing the construction of the Church upon the rock where it has already been undoubtedly built. But also so that it is well adjusted in its foundations, it needs to confer on its members, not only faith, but profound knowledge of God and His path. Here, the role of the Directorate of Christian Education becomes indispensable for the materialization of the project. But for this, good coordination is necessary.

We will work on creating trained teams to treat and help couples have a dignified life according to God’s will. Because nowadays we see that many couples no longer enjoy the joy and blessing that God intended for those who marry. In this way, it is difficult for us to build harmonious, honest families, and obviously, the children that result from this are already born perverted. For the youth, we will create the Youth Ministry, which will deal with matters of education for young Christians.

Regarding the world, the scenarios that the world presents to us in all facets of life are very sad. Men on the face of the earth have once again revealed at this beginning of the 21st century that they have learned no lesson in this life, and the governing systems of the modern world have failed, revealing their inability, weaknesses, motivated by selfishness and excess demagoguery. Beloved! The two systems that emerged from World War II revealed their inadequacies in leading the world on the right path. On the contrary, hatred multiplies; religion itself has once again become a reason and sufficient cause to feed the hatred that is generating deaths among the innocent. Socialism is already a dead man that cannot be resurrected, if we consider the ways it was implemented by the Socialist Bloc during and at the end of the Cold War. I think it is time for the powerful of the world to become aware before the worst happens. In my opinion, religion should not be taken as a reason to justify any violent action against innocent people.

Capitalism was gaining ground, trying to reveal that it was a system capable of bringing happiness to humanity, as a world order, with all its hegemony and power. But it has proven during these last years that it is even worse in terms of selfishness and arrogance compared to socialism. Now, what will be the next system capable of providing the true equality of rights that the world so hopes for? I want to announce here without any error that, if the United States of America manages to resolve anything in the decade we are beginning, it is because there is repentance on their part. If not, the first 5 years will be of great trial for them, because America is not a human project. But, having been transformed into a human project, the kingdom is on its way to another people, and who will dictate the final rules of the world, before the coming of Christ – My life!…

In terms of the country, Angola has grown significantly, although the process has been affected by the global economic and financial crisis. But I also appeal to the common sense of the Executives, especially, that they be more fraternal and abandon that natural feeling that manifests itself through selfishness and lack of love for the people they lead. The Church must also continue to pray for them, so that they can understand the reason that led them to assume these positions. Our country is good. Therefore, we must work harder so that our people live well, and this is not just the task of the State or the Government, because no country in this world was built solely by the hands of the Government. Rather, governments should serve as facilitators of the development processes that social or ecclesiastical actors present for the good of the people.

Beloved! Let’s change our mentality, praying and interceding for African authorities. Mainly for those countries and leaders who still have a selfish spirit, so that they can change and govern in favor of the happiness of their peoples; because no one can be the leader of a nation if they do not know how to value the most precious asset, which is the lives of their citizens, and granting dignity and better living conditions to the people they lead, avoiding unnecessary wars and conflicts that Africa constantly experiences. It is also important to emphasize that Africa, to achieve the stability it needs or requires, must free itself from extra-continental orientations and assume its responsibilities with zeal and a spirit of mission (serving). And opponents must not be avengers of those who leave power, so that they do not fear one day living as ordinary citizens. Leave the spirit of the Avengers behind, precisely because there is no one righteous here on the face of the earth.

Concluding Directives and Blessings

To conclude without trying to highlight some aspects verified and found incongruous to the ministry of God that we propose to serve, would not be my way of being, nor even my style.

Dear Leaders in the various bodies and structures of the Church of Christ!

To be a servant of God and to want to treat the Ministry of the Word of God like other ministries of this world, or as if it were a company, this thought is completely contrary to the Master who said and I quote: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” End of quote.

Therefore, we cannot base our faith on material goods. Those who are in the service of God in a sincere way, He Himself will open the window to make them see His face of joy. Furthermore, the Church is not an Institution created to distribute material goods to supply the social problems of the Associates. It has its mission, and I think everyone knows it well.

As for some less dignified behaviors verified during the past year, I appeal to all Leaders for a profound reflection, in order to self-evaluate and know how to self-correct, because each Leader must seek to cool their tongue and know how to speak opportunely in appropriate places about matters concerning the life of the Church. As you know, the “Church” is a permanent Institution, but men are temporary. For this and other reasons, I have never created positions in the name or as personal property of any Leader but rather positions that have come to last or even to stay, even if their holders pass on. And the Pastor is the one who is willing to pay the price of a true Disciple, accepting to occupy the place indicated to him, willing to leave where he must leave, and go where the Church places him. Otherwise, he ceases to be a true Disciple of Christ.

Also, I have noticed in recent days a significant increase in the use and sale of Church symbols, made haphazardly and without authorization. This is a lack of ethics, besides being a blatant lack of respect. The figure of a Leader, whether the Founder or not, constitutes an inalienable symbol of the Church, which is why people buy objects made with these symbols. Thus, the Church must somehow decide on these sales. I hope the legal bodies take action on the case with urgency.

Finally, I appeal to all children of God who are still outside of this fellowship to return and resume their path. There is a place for all of God’s children. No one will regret it. Come and stay here within the fold of the Christ of the living God. Stop listening to fallacious arguments from someone who is tired of their faith, or has even traded their vision for a pot of stew, and who only prevent others from returning to the Church, “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD: “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” End of quote. Come, this is everyone’s Church. Here, there is no judge to judge anyone, but rather, only to walk together for the good of the Church. Because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

I want to thank all those who worked during the year that ended, who, by complying with a spirit of obedience and self-denial, elevated our self-esteem and will to be Tocoists. In the same way, my thanks also go to the members of the Body of the 24 Elders, the Episcopate, the Women’s, Youth, and Children’s Central Councils, to the Tribes, Parishes, and Provincial Churches, and those abroad, who humbly corresponded, even with numerous difficulties, that our Ministry still faces.

I thank all the Servants of the Tabernacles throughout the Tocoist universe, and I hope you continue your work, which is not in vain in the Lord. I wish you all a happy new year, full of prosperity for all families.
